Application of LUA script in RS485 device cloud connection

This article explores the practical application of LUA scripts in enabling seamless cloud connectivity for RS485-based industrial devices. With the increasing demand for smart industrial automation and remote monitoring, efficient data acquisition, processing, and transmission have become crucial. This paper demonstrates how LUA scripting, within the FlexLUA platform’s low-code programming environment, significantly simplifies these processes. Specifically, it presents a comprehensive case study on implementing Modbus RTU communication over the RS485 interface using LUA scripts to collect device data. The raw data is then parsed, validated, and converted into standardized formats such as JSON, suitable for cloud transmission. Finally, the processed data is uploaded to the cloud via the MQTT protocol over a 4G network, ensuring real-time access and remote management capabilities. Through this approach, the paper highlights the advantages of LUA scripting, including its lightweight nature, ease of integration, high execution efficiency, and rapid development cycles. The results indicate that LUA-based solutions offer a flexible, scalable, and cost-effective method for integrating legacy RS485 devices into modern IoT cloud platforms, making it particularly suitable for edge computing and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.
