IBNU KHALDUN DAN PERINTISAN ILMU SOSIOLOGI DALAM TRADISI ISLAM
This study aims to examine the contributions of Ibn Khaldun in pioneering the discipline of sociology within the framework of Islamic intellectual tradition, particularly through his monumental work, Muqaddimah. Using a qualitative approach and library research method, this research explores Ibn Khaldun’s sociological concepts such as ‘ashabiyah (social cohesion), ‘umrān (civilization), and the cyclical theory of the rise and fall of states and societies. Ibn Khaldun not only documented historical facts but also provided critical analyses of the social, political, and economic dynamics of human civilization. The findings show that his thoughts are highly relevant to modern sociological theories and offer alternative frameworks for developing social sciences based on Islamic values. Therefore, Ibn Khaldun stands as not only a prominent figure in Islamic intellectual history but also a pioneer in the development of integrative and visionary social thought.
