RIS Deployment Strategy in 6G Networks Based on Adaptive Neighborhood PSO
This study explores the deployment of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) in a multiuser communication network. Specifically, a global optimization algorithm based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is proposed, which jointly optimizes the location and phase shift matrix of each RIS to maximize the average network coverage. Further to increase the convergence speed and avoid premature local optima, we incorporate the proposed PSO algorithm with an adaptive inertia weight mechanism and a neighborhood topology. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves a near-optimal average coverage, within 3% of the theoretical maximum, while reducing computation time by approximately 80% compared to the greedy exhaustive search, particularly as the number of RISs increases.
