Effective Fast Load Shedding Scheme for Power Network Stability in a Floating Lng Plant
The stability and reliability of the electrical grid in Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) plants are crucial for an uninterrupted LNG production. Unlike onshore public utility power networks, operating an island of small and low-inertia power network offshore comes with additional challenges in terms of network stability; especially during outage of any main gas turbine generators (GTG). The reliability of the GTGs, which serves as the main power source, together with the effectiveness of a fast load shedding scheme plays a critical role in maintaining grid stability during an event of power deficit. This paper studies the GTGs' dynamics and load shedding strategies from an assessed scenario. This paper proposes the factors to be taken into account in designing and operating a small power network which is equipped with GTGs as the main power source.
