CONSUMO E CONFORMISMO: A PASSIVIDADE DOS SUJEITOS NO CONTEXTO DA CULTURA DE MASSA

The cultural industry promotes a cycle of consumption and conformity that, by massifying cultural products and entertainment, contributes to the passivity of individuals in contemporary society. Under the logic of mass culture, content is widely accessible and directed at heterogeneous audiences, limiting the possibilities for authentic criticism and reflection. This process replaces cultural diversity with standardized offerings, where consumers have few choices and are led to follow behaviors and ideas reproduced by the industry itself. Mass culture, driven by the media and incessant consumption, discourages critical analysis and action, promoting values of adaptation and conformity at the expense of social transformation. Instead of being agents of change, individuals become mere spectators, distanced from reality and more susceptible to accepting society's imposed norms. Thus, the cultural industry acts as a tool that, rather than stimulating personal and social development, perpetuates a system of alienation, consolidating a passive collectivity adapted to the relentless consumption of products and ideas controlled by a homogeneous cultural market.
