Viscoelastic Modeling of Acoustic Wave Attenuation in CV Cables with RC-FDTD Method

The accurate measurement of space charges in power cables is essential for ensuring the reliability of power systems. This study employs the Recursive Convolution FiniteDifference Time-Domain (RC-FDTD) method, incorporating viscoelastic theory to simulate pressure wave propagation in CV cables, addressing complexities such as geometric effects and acoustic attenuation. Experimental PEA measurements revealed signal variations linked to the applied step voltage's rise time, highlighting the importance of corrections for attenuation and electric field distribution. The RC-FDTD simulations successfully reproduced the measured waveforms, demonstrating the method's effectiveness in analyzing space charge behavior and providing a foundation for improving diagnostic techniques in power cable systems.
