Power allocation of hybrid energy storage system for More Electric Aircraft (MEA) power supply

With the development of more electric aircraft, some highly electrified loads (such as radar) due to their characteristics of high-power pulsation and fast starting speed, the loading/unloading process will cause great impact on the stable operation of the aircraft power grid and affect the stable operation of the basic loads on the aircraft. In this paper, a hybrid energy storage device is introduced into the power distribution control link on the primary side of the aircraft bus, and the pulsating power is reasonably and dynamically distributed according to the characteristics of different energy storage elements. Then the hybrid energy storage system responds to and smoothes the distributed pulsating power to achieve reducing the fluctuation range of the DC bus of the more electric aircraft, smoothing the pulsating power, and improving the reliability and stability of the aircraft power grid. At the same time, the influence of the cut-off frequency on the power smoothing effect of the hybrid energy storage system is explored. The simulation and experimental results show that by introducing a hybrid energy storage device on the primary side of the aircraft power grid, the pulsating power can be effectively smoothed and the bus voltage can be maintained stable.
