A Novel Fast Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control Strategy for Three-Level Active Neutral-Point-Clamped Converters

Compared with the two-level inverter, the power transistor of there-level inverter, e.g., active neutral-point-clamped converter (ANPC), bears lower voltage and electromagnetic interference, making it more suitable for medium and high voltage applications. However, the three-level ANPC operates with high switching loss and high computational complexity when the finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) method is used for better response speed. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel fast FCS-MPC strategy for three-level ANPC. Considering the four vector groups, i.e., zero vector, small vector, medium vector, and large vector, the candidate sets are selected accordingly, reducing the computational complexity of the conventional FCS-MPC strategy, which adopts all 27 traditional switching vectors. Furthermore, the proposed fast FCS-MPC strategy in this paper was validated through extensive simulations.
