A cognitive framework for the production of red burnished jar
The Bronze Age red burnished jar vary in size and shape. Nevertheless, appearance is perceived very similarly. What is the reason? The reason is that the ratio of appearance is similar. In this study, it was noted that the external ratio of red burnished jar was similar. And the reason for this was that the image that the earthenware maker drew in his head was the same. In other words, it was considered that a kind of production drawing was standardized at a considerable level. In this study, the image of the production drawing of the earthenware maker was assumed as a ‘A cogvitive framework’ for the appearance of the earthenware. And by examining how formalized the cognitive framework was, the professional production system of red burnished jar was tracked. The analysis was conducted focusing on statistical analysis using SPSS. The focus of the analysis was the proportion of the earthenware appearance and the variance of the proportion. For example, it was examined how high the horizontal and vertical ratio of the body and the overall horizontal and vertical ratio of the earthenware showed. As a result of the analysis, the common perception used when producing red burnished jar throughout Gyeongnam was identified. In particular, the cognitive framework for creating the ratio of the ‘part’ based on the ‘whole’ was identified. In addition, it was found that the cognitive framework showed very high similarity. The reason why the cognitive framework was shared for a long time and in a wide area was considered to be the cause of the succession of earthenware production through education. And through this system, it was considered that a production expert, that is, a professional public figure, of the red burnished jar appeared. The professional public figure of the Bronze Age is rudimentary. However, it is meaningful that the professional public figure of the Bronze Age has emerged. This is because the first step toward a more advanced production system was taken in the Bronze Age.
