A Case Report of Submental Intubation with an Unusual Complication in a Patient with Facial Trauma

REPORTwall of the left orbit. The patient was scheduled to undergo open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) with plating of the maxillary, mandibular, and orbital fractures, and tension band wiring of the right patella. The patient had a history of hearing and speech impairment since birth, for which he had undergone right-sided cochlear implant surgery 14 years ago.He had no other comorbidities.Airway assessment revealed a mouth opening of less than two fingers due to pain, and hence, the Mallampati Classification Score could not be assessed. The patient was vitally stable, with a blood pressure of 120/70 mm Hg and a heart rate of 90 beats per minute.Auscultation of the chest revealed minimal reduced air entry on the right base and normal heart sounds.
