Variable Stiffness Control Based on LQR: A Study on Magnetic Suspension PHC Pipe Pile

To solve the significant problems of high energy consumption and noise in the centrifugal process of the prestressed high-intensity concrete (PHC) pipe piles, a hybrid magnetic suspension technology was developed and a control strategy of variable suspension stiffness was proposed. Taking the 4-DOF (four-pole) magnetic bearing as an example, the influence of variable and constant stiffness of magnetic bearing under the control of LQR algorithm on system energy consumption was compared. The control performance of the system under the two control methods was verified by MATLAB/Simulink. The results showed that the variable stiffness control system can save 64% power compared with the constant stiffness control system.
