Optimization of Fracturing Stages and Perforation Clusters Based on RoqSCAN Cutting Mineralogical Analysis
Abstract Horizontal well and large-scale hydraulic fracturing technology are widely used in unconventional reservoirs. However, unsuitable combinations of fracturing stages and perforation clusters are detrimental to achieving the target production. The lithology of Chang 7 shale reservoirs in Qingcheng Oilfield is complex, limiting the potential effectiveness of conventional logging methods for evaluating sweet spots and optimizing fracturing stages and perforation clusters. In this paper, RoqSCAN mineralogical analysis technology is applied to test cuttings collected from a horizontal shale oil well and the elastomechanical parameters of the rock are calculated to evaluate geological and engineering sweet spots. Based on the results of mineralogical analysis and sweet spots evaluation, the spacing between fracturing stages and perforation clusters is optimized to achieve homogeneous stimulation and maximum stimulated reservoir volume (SRV).The results indicate that Young’s modulus and Poisson’s Ration matched by RoqSCAN mineralogical analysis technology agree with the trend of dipole acoustic logging, which validates the reliability of rock mechanical calculation, and provides more precise parameters for fracturing optimization, such as high-quality brittleness index and weak index that can reflect rock crushability. The recommended fracturing schemes for the target well are 17 stages and 71 clusters. This research performs geological and engineering double sweet spot evaluation and optimization of fracturing stages and perforation clusters using RoqSCAN cutting mineralogical analysis technology, providing technical support for shale oil exploration and development.
