Estudio exploratorio sobre los aprendizajes sociales de movimientos socioambientales en defensa del derecho a un medio ambiente sano en Xalapa, Veracruz

Environmental education has had a peripheral rather than central presence in the Mexican educational system. However, although socio-environmental movements emerge as expressions of citizen protest, they can also be seen as spaces for learning. This article presents the initial findings of an exploratory study conducted for a doctoral thesis in educational research, whose overall objective focuses on identifying the social learnings that occur in the fight for a healthy environment. Through the experiences of those who have participated in the process, it is hoped to recover valuable information that allows for the identification of these unexpected outcomes, as well as the possible educational requirements that could contribute to the development of environmental defense strategies. The results suggest that in the organizational processes deployed by groups in response to social protest and discontent over the deterioration of their quality of life, learning experiences are triggered that could be leveraged to foster organized and well-informed collective action.
