795nm VCSEL Characterizations for Quantum Sensing Applications

This paper presents characterization results of 795nm Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) intended for rubidium-based quantum sensing applications. We report detailed Light-Current-Voltage (L-I-V) measurements across a temperature range of 20°C to 100°C and also the spectroscopic characteristics to assess operational parameters critical for quantum sensor implementations. These benchmark measurements establish foundational performance metrics that identify specific areas requiring further optimization, particularly linewidth reduction for VCSELs to meet the requirements of nextgeneration compact atomic clocks, magnetometers, and other quantum sensors. Our characterization framework provides a methodical approach for evaluating and advancing VCSEL technology toward practical quantum sensing platforms.
