Active Optical Fibers in Defense: Composition, Waveguide, and New Directions
Discussed are advanced research approaches to the design of active optical fibers and laser-system architectures having the potential to overcome major obstacles still hindering further power scaling. These necessitate, in part, combined tailoring of the thermo-optic and other profiles, the nonlinear coefficients, and use of anti-Stokes pumping.
