Real Time Optical Processing of Infrared Upconverted Images on a Two Dimensional Layered Material Based Nonlinear Optical Mirror
We demonstrate the real-time optical image processing capability of a two dimensional (2D) layered material-based nonlinear optical up-conversion mirrors used for widefield upconversion of images from the near infrared to the visible wavelength range. The nonlinear optical mirror stack consists of multilayer Gallium Selenide on a gold back-plane with an intermediate silicon dioxide (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{SiO}_{2}$</tex>) layer with the individual layers optimized to maximize the sum-frequency generation-based upconversion efficiency. The nonlinear optical mirror is utilized for high-fidelity, wide-field up-conversion in both real-plane and Fourier-plane imaging configurations. Real-time spatial filtering operation to achieve edge-contrast through high-pass filtering and smoothening through low-pass filtering are demonstrated.
