Complex Frequency Excitations in Photonics
Complex frequency excitations can mimic gain- and loss-like phenomena by shaping the temporal profile of the impinging waves on a resonant system. We discuss a few examples in which this approach can be successfully implemented in optical platforms and demonstrate exotic optical responses based on these principles. Super-resolution imaging, loss compensation, and enhanced light confinement are among the phenomena that can be realized by accessing complex frequency excitations.
