Simulations of magnetic field effects on 3-GeV proton beam brought by magnets for muon beam in future proton beam transport line of J-PARC

Abstract The high-power 3-GeV proton beam from the rapid cycling synchrotron (RCS) of J-PARC is transported to the spallation neutron source at Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) by a 3-GeV RCS to Neutron facility Beam Transport (3NBT) line. Recently, the design power of 1 MW has been achieved in the MLF user operation. As a future plan of J-PARC, MLF second target station (TS2) has been proposed. For providing the proton beam to the TS2, design studies of a new proton beam transport line have been started. The previous design studies have reported the first design idea on the beam optics to the target, which works as both muon and neutron sources. In the present study, we have considered the proton beam transport in the vicinity of the target, where a bending magnet and a solenoid magnet are aligned for the muon beam transport. The magnetic field effects on the 3-GeV proton beam by those magnets are investigated based on simulations. Correction methods for the effects are also studied and presented.
