A STUDY ON THE ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT OF AMRAVRUKSHA TWAK KASHAYA PARISHEKA IN DUSHTAVRANA
Wounds are a major clinical challenge very frequently encountered in clinical practice. Even after the development of different techniques and methods for the treatment of wound, still problems are persisting in the management1. Salyatantra is the ancient Indian surgery which deals with different kind of wounds and their management. Acharya Susrutha has mentioned 60 treatment modalities for management of Vrana known as Shashtirupakrama. With logical implementation of these principles with wise selection of drugs we can find remedies in management of various ulcers. The presence of microorganisms is a major factor that hinders wound healing. A trophic ulcer also referred as a pressure ulcer is defined as an ulcer caused due to external trauma to the part of the body that is in poor condition because of disease, vascular insufficiency or loss of sensation. Here a case of trophic ulcer managed with Amravrukshatwak Kashaya Parisheka is detailed. A male patient aged 41 years came to Salya Tantra OPD of AAMC with complaints of chronic non –healing ulcer over left heel since 2 years associated with difficulty in walking. The patient had a history of fall before 7 years, had no history of fracture but thereafter the patient had difficulty while walking. Since then the patient walks with support and had mild limping towards left side. Before 2 years he had a mild trauma due to stepping over a piece of stone and thereafter developed the ulcer. Microbial assessment of the wound revealed presence of heavy growth of Staphylococcus aureus in the wound. The patient was managed with Parisheka mentioned in the Shashtirupakrama along with a combination of internal medications to promote healing of ulcer.
