The Sustainability Benchmarks Link to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Sustainable Tourism in Thailand

Objective: Climate change is a critical issue that must be addressed in the tourism sector. Tracking Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) is essential to understanding the impacts generated by businesses in this field. Limited resources available for tourism activities complicate this challenge further. Method: The primary research presents findings from a Thai hotel operation. Results and Discussion: It was found that the average annual electricity consumption per room-night is 76.84 kilowatt-hours, while the average annual water consumption is 1.022 cubic meters per room-night. Regarding waste, organic waste is produced at a rate of 1.06 kilograms per room-night, and solid waste amounts to 0.96 kilograms per room-night. The study also calculated the carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (CO2e) associated with hotel services. The CO2 emissions from electricity usage total 37.15 kilograms per room-night. For water usage, the emissions are 0.82 kilograms per room-night. Organic waste contributes 0.76 kilograms per room-night, while solid waste adds 0.62 kilograms per room-night. Overall, the total CO2 emissions from these four main resource utilization factors in hotel services amount to 39.35 kilograms per room-night. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the need for further detailed investigations by researchers and stakeholders to ensure accuracy and promote beneficial applications in the future.
