Medication adherence among outpatients with complicated hypertension at Hanoi Heart Hospital in 2023
Objective: This study aimed to assess treatment adherence and determine associated factors among outpatients with complicated hypertension at Hanoi Heart Hospital in 2023. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from March to September 2023 involving 387 patients. Data were collected via structured face-to-face interviews using the Morisky-8 Medication Adherence Scale. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0. Results: High adherence was found in 61,8% of patients, moderate in 28,9%, and low in 9,3%. Significant factors associated with treatment adherence included: treatment support characteristics (p<0,05), knowledge of hypertension treatment (p<0,05), practice of regular health check-ups and blood pressure monitoring (p<0,05), medication adherence (p<0,05), behavioral practices related to smoking, alcohol use, diet (p<0,05), and physical activity (p<0,05). Conclusion: Although a majority of patients showed high adherence, several modifiable factors remain influential. Strengthening patient education, care support, health behavior modification, and improving communication between patients and healthcare providers are key to optimizing treatment adherence.
