A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN INDIA

These days, violence against women is a sad reality that occurs everywhere. Domestic violence is one of the most common crimes against women and is closely linked to the upholding of patriarchy. We discovered several instances of violence against women in India, a country where women are highly valued. In India, domestic violence affects almost every household in some way, with women being abused financially, emotionally, and physically.29.3 percent of married Indian women between the ages of 18 and 49 have experienced domestic or sexual violence, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), 2019–2021.This data is based solely on cases that women report; many more may never come to the police because of low literacy, social pressure, fear of retaliation, lack of trust in the police, and low conviction rates for such crimes. The issue of domestic abuse against Indian women as a violation of their human rights is examined critically in this essay. The study examines the definition and manifestations of violence against women and identifies the contributing elements to the continuation of domestic violence against women.Additionally,it talks about governmental initiatives to stop violence against women. The study also makes an effort to offer suggestions for eliminating this threat from society
