National Research University Moscow Power Engineering Institute – Ensuring Achievement of National Goals

The article gives brief information on the development history of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI), presently the National Research University (NRU MPEI), and characterizes its current state. The NRU MPEI strategy until 2036 on training engineering staff and conducting scientific developments aimed at achieving technological leadership is discussed in detail. The NRU MPEI mission and strategic goal are given, and the university’s target model is described, which implies transformation of the university into the core of the ecosystem of Breakthrough Research and Development (BRD) in the field of energy and high-tech economy sectors (BRD FEC). BRD FEC unites stakeholders represented by organizations of the fuel and energy complex (FEC), manufacturers of power equipment and computer-based systems for the FEC needs, scientific and educational institutions, as well as sectoral federal and regional executive bodies. The article describes strategic initiatives in the key directions of NRU MPEI activity: education, science and innovations, infrastructure, staff and international activity. The draft budget for implementing the development strategy is given, as well as the effect from its implementation, which pays off the necessary expenses, not only from the point of view of economy, but also from the point of view of technological sovereignty, information security and ecology.
