SURVEY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BIOLOGICAL CONTROLS: AN INSTITUTIONAL EVALUATION OF NON-CHEMICAL TREATMENT METHODS FOR PLANT DISEASES IN YOLA, ADAMAWA STATE

This study investigates the effectiveness of biological controls as non-chemical treatment methods for managing plant diseases, with a focus on farmers and institutional practices across Yola, Adamawa State. A survey research design was employed, involving the distribution of 400 structured questionnaires across four agricultural zones in Adamawa State. Respondents included agricultural professionals, extension workers, farmer’s researchers, and key stakeholders in relevant institutions. The study evaluated the adoption, application challenges, and perceived efficacy of biological control methods such as bio pesticides, beneficial microorganisms, and natural predators. Results indicate moderate adoption rates, hindered by challenges in awareness, technical knowledge, and resource availability. Despite these constraints, respondents acknowledged the potential of biological controls to enhance sustainable agricultural practices and reduce reliance on chemical treatments. The study emphasizes the need for policy support, capacity-building programs, and increased funding to improve the implementation and effectiveness of biological control strategies.
