INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE VARIATION FOLLOWING INTRAVITREAL BEVACIZUMAB VERSUS RANIBIZUMAB INJECTIONS: A RETROSPECTIVE COMPARATIVE STUDY FROM SOUTHERN ASSAM

Purpose: To compare intraocular pressure (IOP) variations following intravitreal injections of bevacizumab and ranibizumab in patients with retinal vascular diseases in a tertiary care centre of Southern Assam. Methods: This retrospective comparative study included 160 eyes (80 receiving bevacizumab, 80 receiving ranibizumab). IOP was measured at baseline, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours, and 1-week post-injection using Goldmann applanation tonometry. Mean IOP changes and the proportion of eyes with IOP > 25 mmHg were compared between groups. Results: Both groups showed a transient IOP rise at 30 minutes, which returned near baseline by 24 hours. The mean IOP at 30 minutes was 18.9 ± 3.4 mmHg in the bevacizumab group and 18.1 ± 3.2 mmHg in the ranibizumab group (p=0.18).The proportion of eyes with IOP > 25 mmHg at 30 minutes was slightly higher in the bevacizumab group (15%) than in the ranibizumab group (12.5%), but not statistically significant. Conclusion: Both bevacizumab and ranibizumab are associated with a similar, transient, and clinically insignificant IOP rise after injection, with levels returning to baseline within 24 hours.
