Impact of ambient parameters on the performance of triple GEM detectors
Abstract Environmental conditions can profoundly affect the performance of the gaseous detectors. The GEM detector is a new-age gaseous detector widely utilized in high-energy and nuclear physics experiments because of its outstanding performance. Variations in environmental conditions, such as temperature and pressure, can affect the performance of these detectors. We analyze the impact of ambient parameters on the effective gain, energy resolution, and timing resolution of Triple GEM detectors through a series of measurements. Furthermore, we propose a novel approach of integrating sensors directly into the detector system to monitor and adapt to changing environmental conditions during operation. The results show that integrating the sensors within the chambers would allow us to make precise high voltage corrections due to temperature and pressure, which would ultimately lead to better reliability and stability of Triple GEM detectors, making them suitable for a variety of applications.
