AS MARGENS DA URBANIZAÇÃO: INCLUSÃO, EXCLUSÃO E NOVOS CENÁRIOS SOCIAIS
Intensive urbanization has reshaped social spaces, driving profound changes in the urban fabric and community relations. At the margins of this process, dynamics of inclusion and exclusion reveal structural inequalities and social challenges. Urban expansion often benefits privileged sectors while marginalizing vulnerable populations, creating pockets of exclusion in peripheral areas. However, these peripheral spaces also emerge as hubs of cultural resistance and social innovation, paving the way for new forms of coexistence and community organization. Urbanization, while driving economic progress and city modernization, demands reflection on the social impacts of the inequalities it perpetuates. The coexistence of inclusion and exclusion within the same urban environment highlights the contradictory nature of urban growth, which concentrates wealth in some sectors while reinforcing precariousness in others. These scenarios call for effective and inclusive public policies to address challenges related to access to basic services, housing, and economic opportunities. Furthermore, initiatives that encourage community participation, preserve local identities, and reduce regional disparities are essential. Understanding the mechanisms operating at the margins of urbanization is thus crucial for rethinking urban development strategies that promote genuine and sustainable inclusion.
