A Case-Based Study of Corrugated Boundaries in a Trilayered Structure and Their Influence on LT Waves
The study delves into an analytical examination of the constraints and propagation of Love-type transverse waves (LT waves) within a three-layered sandwich structure. To tailor the structure for sensor and actuator applications, a piezomagnetic layer is positioned at the top, while a fiber-reinforced medium lies beneath to provide rigidity and stability. This is followed by an inhomogeneous isotropic half-space layer. The interface of the structure is assumed to exhibit periodic irregularities, characterized by a cosine function with variable amplitude. The layers contain inherent inhomogeneities described by fundamental transcendental functions such as exponentials and algebraic functions. The dynamics of the medium are formulated using coupled partial differential equations, which are analytically solved using variable-separable and substitution methods. The closed-form dispersion relation is derived for two contrasting scenarios: magnetically open and magnetically short circuit. The study thoroughly discusses the notable effects of inhomogeneity parameters and periodic irregularities on phase velocity, employing suitable graphical representations. It is observed that these parameters can induce significant fluctuations in velocity; in some cases, velocity experiences a sharp asymptotic increase, while in others, it slows down considerably. Additionally, a comparative analysis between open and short cases is presented. This investigation may aid in optimizing Love wave sensors and improving the measurement of imperfections.
