Ground Water Characteristics of Katepurna River Sub Basin of Purna River in Geologically Hard Rock Terrain, Central India
In the study area there 09 observations wells and monitored for the five years (2007)(2008)(2009)(2010) to decipherer periodic changes in water levels. In the Hydrogeologically, unconsolidated alluvial deposits and Deccan trap, characterize the basin. The alluvial deposits are composed of flood plain alluvium consisting of poorly graded sands and gravels.Groundwater recharge in the aquifer occurs via direct infiltration of rainfall, infiltration through river beds, and lateral subsurface inflows. The movement of groundwater is from the recharge area of the upper hills towards the central part of the basin and ultimately the discharge is towards the Purna River in the south.study area most of the well are pumping (irrigation) and bore wells type, the error due to pumpage was overcome at times after collecting the reported nonpumpage water level by observing watermark in the dug wells. The depth to water level elevation map was prepared by using the Arc info software and GIS software.
