CodedMyRoute: Design and Implementation of Software Defined Reliable Routing Scheme for Satellite IoTs
Satellite Internet of things (SIoTs) plays an important role in delivering wireless services in the maritime industry. However, the presence of link bandwidth fluctuation or wireless security threats in the network would cause packet loss and the network reliability degradation. Considering the long transmission latency between the satellite and the wireless device on the ground, packet retransmission might not be efficient. In this paper, we adopt the software defined networking and propose a Network Coding assisted Distributed Routing (Coded-MyRoute) scheme to support the reliable packet forwarding in satellite networks. Specifically, CodedMyRoute actively monitors the network condition and utilizes the available link bandwidth to adaptively introduce redundancy for wireless transmission failure recovery. Therefore, packets can be delivered reliably. Moreover, the proposed CodedMyRoute is integrated into the open source programming protocol-independent packet processors (P4) switch, and the evaluation results present the improved end-to-end reliability.
