Effect of 8 Week Aquarobic Training on Health-Ralated Physical Fitness and Bone Mineral Density in Elderly Obese Women

Objectives This study aimed to analyze the effect of 8 weeks aquarobic training on health-related physical fitness and bone mineral density in elderly obese women. Methods In this study, old women were divided into aquarobic exercise (n=8) and control (n=8) groups. Aquarobic training was conducted for 8 weeks, four times a week for 60 minutes, with an exercise intensity of at 30% to 65% of HRR for 1 weeks to –4 weeks, and 30% to 70% of HRR for 5 weeks to 8 weeks. We measured health-related physical fitness and lumber spine and femoral neck bone mineral density of the subjects. Results In health-related physical fitness, the aquarobic exercise group did not show a significant difference before and after 8-week aquarobic exercise. This study also did not show a significant difference of health-related physical fitness between both groups. In lumber spine and femoral neck bone mineral density, both groups did not show a significant differences. However, in femoral neck bone mineral density, it showed a significant increase in the aquarobic exercise group compare to the control group(p<.05). Moreover, the aquarobic exercise group showed a significant increase in the femoral neck T-score compare to that of the control group after 8-week. Conclusions Therefore, the results of this study suggest that 8-week aquarobic training is considered to be an exercise program that can affect the prevention and improvement of femoral neck bond mineral density in old women for elderly obese women.
