P06-18 Alcohol Consumption-Induced Metabolic Acidosis

Alcohol is the most widely consumed xenobiotic among young individuals. Excessive consumption of alcohol in significant amounts can lead to metabolic acidosis that can be life threating. We present a clinical case reports of alcohol-induced metabolic acidosis. An 18-year-old male patient is admitted to the emergency department after experiencing a loss of consciousness. The patient was directly subjected complete assessment and clinical and laboratory examinations. Arterial Blood Test indicate: pCO 2 =42.9 mmHg, pO 2 =86.0 mmHg, pH=7.037, cHCO 3 =11.3mmol/l, BE=-18.9 mmol/L, SO 2 =92.2%, Ca 2+ =0.993 mmol/l, K + =4.73 mmol/l, Na + =139.8 mmol/l, Glu=129.5mg/dl, Lac=15.87mmol/L. Additional blood tests revealed RBC=6.60x10˄6/uL, Hgb=14.7g/dL, HCT=41.9%, WBC=15.2K/uL, PLT=326K/uL, A LT=114U/L, A ST=114U/L, L DH=775U/L. In Anamnesis Vitae, patients referenced large amounts of alcohol overnight. The patient was healthy prior to the incident and had no other illnesses. No trauma or injuries were found. The diagnosis was made on history and physical examinations. Following clinical and analytical evaluations, the patient was admitted to the clinical toxicology department and received supportive and symptomatic care. The patient recovered well and was discharged from the hospital after 24 hours. Alcohol is a substance that is accessible both inside and outside the home. Rapid and large amounts of alcohol can cause liver metabolism disorders, which can be extremely toxic to the body. Metabolic acidosis is a potentially life-threatening complication of alcohol consumption. This condition arises from lactic acidosis, ketoacidosis, and acetic acidosis, with the degree of severity differing among patients. Although there is no specific antidote for alcohol, severe forms of these poisoning require medical care and constant monitoring of the patient. Metabolic acidosis is one of the main adverse effects of alcohol consumption. Every patient who has lost consciousness has to have their blood alcohol content measured. Legislative action is required to restrict alcohol consumption among young ages.
