Application of optimal control strategies to drug-gang modeling
The drug-crime nexus represents a persistent challenge with profound societal implications. This publication explores an innovative approach by applying optimal control strategies and cost-effectiveness analysis to model and address this complex issue. We take advantage of mathematical modeling techniques to capture the dynamic interplay between drug-related activities and criminal behavior. Optimal control strategies are introduced as intervention measures to effectively mitigate drug- related crimes. Through rigorous simulations and data-driven analysis, our study reveals the efficacy of various interventions, shedding light on which strategies offer the most substantial reductions in drug-related crime rates. In addition, we assess the cost effectiveness of these interventions, providing critical information for resource allocation and policy decisions. Our findings demonstrate that optimal control strategies, when appropriately tailored to the specific context, can yield significant reductions in drug-related crime, making efficient use of limited resources. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on evidence-based policy formulation and underscores the importance of integrating optimization techniques and cost-effectiveness analysis into drug-crime modeling. Ultimately, our work provides a valuable framework for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and public health officials to design more effective and efficient strategies to combat drug-related crime while maximizing societal benefits.
