Experimental studies on a direct injection diesel engine fueled with hydrogen enriched garcinia gummi-gutta biodiesel

Petroleum derivatives are the primary source of energy consumption on a global scale. There exist several limitations associated with the use of fossil fuels, including their finite supply, escalating costs, and the production of pollutants upon combustion in engines. The present investigation experiments were carried out utilising fuel blends: Garcinia Gummi-Gutta Biodiesel 20 (GGGBD20) and hydrogen-enriched GGGBD20. The hydrogen flow rates were evaluated at three levels: 2 lpm, 4 lpm, and 6 lpm, respectively. The result of the experimental investigation focuses on multiple performance, combustion, and emission indicators such as BTE, BSFC, CP, NHRR, CO, UHC, NOₓ, and smoke opacity. Additionally, there was an increase in the combustion characteristics relating to the CP and NHRR. In the case of GGGBD20 with 6 lpm hydrogen, the BTE, CP, NHRR, and NOx emissions exhibited a notable increase of 20.26%, 14.99%, 30.99%, and 82.59%, respectively, in comparison to diesel. Other parameters, BSFC, CO, UHC, and smoke opacity showed a reduction of 28.12%, 92.71%, 56.25%, and 61.29%, respectively, in comparison to diesel.
