Improvement of the National Standard of the Electrical Capacitance and Dissipation Factor

The National Standard of Ukraine of Units of Electrical Capacitance and Dissipation Factor provides reproduction and transition of measurement units only at a frequency of 1 kHz, which does not meet the modern requirements of customers. The vast majority of measuring devices for electrical impedance parameters in energy and other industries are used at frequencies from 50 Hz to 20 kHz, and require calibration at operating frequencies. They cannot be calibrated at a frequency of 1 kHz. This problem leads to the need for calibrating the appropriate metrological equipment abroad. The approaches of improvement of the standard with a purpose of widening the range of frequencies and values of electrical capacitance are researched and described in this article. It is proposed to perform the improvement by including additional equipment to the standard, which will ensure the reproduction of electrical capacitance in a wide range of frequencies and values. Ways to obtain metrological traceability of the electrical capacitance units are described. The use of a calibrated ultra-precision bridge as part of the improved standard will allow calibration of precision variable capacitors in the full range of values at the required frequencies. Software requirements are described. The materials presented in the article should be used by national metrological institutes, as well as calibration and testing laboratories that perform measurements of electromagnetic quantities.
