Implementation of a Duplex VLC System Using Different Light Sources for Indoor Light Communication
In recent years, visible light communications (VLC) have emerged as a topic of interest for a great number of researchers. This is because it offers several advantages that cannot be found in any radio frequency (RF) communication method. Few researchers have concentrated on how to build a transceiver for VLC in a step-by-step manner for short-range communication, even though many researchers have focused on how to achieve high data rates for communication. This study presents a performance evaluation for the VLC system which is intended for use in indoor and short-distance communications. Two types of blocks or systems were included for investigation. The first consider using the LED source at the Tx and using the Laser at the receiver. Meanwhile, the second block is vice versa. The designed VLC system is performed by using the powerful tool of the Optisystem program, which is a dedicated software for simulating such cases with accurate and reliable results. Analysis results confirm that using a Laser for transmitting data can achieve better results. This is because using LED provides lower modulation bandwidth as compared to the Laser. For future studies, the proposed system can be implemented by using the Arduino tool and the required hardware components.
