Advancing Quantum Mechanics in Courses of 2nd Year of Engineering Programs
Traditional curricula of engineering programs contain a first course of quantum mechanics at the 3th or 4th year. In some cases, only a few topics about it are briefly presented. The common perception is that content of this course seems to be away of previous gained knowledge. In this paper, a proposal that aims to link basic electric circuits to quantum harmonic oscillator, is presented. Essentially, it is revisited the RC, RC and RLC circuits, but with a different approach. Thus, while a theoretical methodology is applied to associate the circuits to quantum mechanics properties, the concept of quantization is applied to Voltage’s law of Kirchhoff but expressed in terms of classical energy. Therefore, the content of paper tries to demonstrate that quantum physics can be exemplified through basic RC, RL and RLC circuits, but emphasizing the understanding about functionality of a quantum computer, particularly on the fact that trapped ions behave as a nonharmonic oscillator.
