Aila - Artificial Intelligence for Learning Assistance: a Learning Support Interactive Chatbot

This paper discusses the development and implementation of AILA, an AI-powered learning chatbot designed to support higher education students of the Ânima Educação ecosystem. It emphasizes the importance of technological personalized educational tools, particularly during the challenging transition from basic to higher education. During this period, students face increased academic demands, necessitating the implementation of more assertive learning self-regulation methods. Given this, AILA uses psychometric and diagnostic questionnaires to identify individual student needs and recommend relevant study materials, thereby improving academic performance and engagement. The AILA software development process follows the agile Scrum methodology, ensuring flexibility and continuous delivery. The architecture employs modern technologies like Vue.js,. NET 6, Python, and MongoDB. Initial results show significant engagement. A total of 24,054 students completed all of AILA's questionnaires and accessed the recommended content, with an 80.6 % satisfaction rate. Future plans include expanding the platform to other knowledge areas and educational levels, integrating new functionalities, and conducting long-term impact studies on student performance and engagement.
