Method for determining the phases of the braking process from experimental data on braking deceleration
Abstract In the study of extreme vehicle braking processes, theoretical models are commonly used that assume the longitudinal deceleration changes follow strictly linear laws, with phase transitions represented by distinct breakpoints. However, experimental investigations reveal that the deceleration characteristics during such braking events exhibit significant fluctuations caused by various influencing factors. The process is continuous, and the individual phases are interconnected through smooth transitions rather than abrupt changes. Deviations in the accuracy of determining phase boundaries have a considerable impact on the calculated parameters of each period. This paper proposes a method for identifying the phase boundaries in the process of extreme vehicle braking based on experimental deceleration data. Verification of the method through conducted experiments demonstrates consistent results with minimal deviations in the boundary positions relative to the intersection points of the regression lines derived from data segments corresponding to the individual periods.
