Estilos de crianza y dependencia emocional en adolescentes escolarizados en Montería, Colombia

Parenting styles play an essential role in the way adolescents establish their relationships, influencing both their well-being and their behavior. Emotional dependence, which goes beyond romantic relationships, also affects the personal environment and emotional state. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of parenting styles and emotional dependence in adolescents attending school in Montería, Colombia. A quantitative, non-experimental study was carried out, with a correlational and cross-sectional design. 125 adolescents from an educational institution in Montería were evaluated, applying the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire (CDE) and the Steinberg Parenting Styles Scale. The results indicated that the parental commitment dimension showed a negative relationship with the CDE subscales: modification of plans, fear of loneliness and borderline expression. In contrast, psychological autonomy presented a positive correlation with seeking attention (p < 0.05). In conclusion, both parental commitment and psychological autonomy in parenting are key aspects for children to adequately express their emotions in their emotional relationships.
