Effect of positive psychotherapy on infertile patients: A systematic review
Infertility is one of the most common human problems that affects the physical, mental and social health of individuals. This study aimed to determine the outcomes of psychotherapy on Infertile Patients. The present study is a systematic review. An electronic search was conducted in the desired databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Scientific Information Database, Irandoc, and Noormags, using the keywords “Positive Psychotherapy”, “Infertile Patients”, “Sterility”, and “Subfertility”. Initially, 772 articles were found, and, in the end, eight articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected. A critical appraisal checklist developed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) was used to assess the quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies. This systematic review showed that positive psychotherapy is efficacious in improving stigma, self-efficacy, self-focus, self-blaming, symptomatic rumination, sexual satisfaction, life satisfaction, quality of life, mental endurance, self-compassion, and resilience, as well as in reducing anxiety and depression. Positive psychotherapy is an effective way to increase factors related to mental health and improve the quality of life for infertile patients.
