Optimizing AR/VR video transmission with 5G networks

The integration of fifth generation (5G) technology into Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) is transforming immersive experiences by addressing latency, bandwidth and scalability challenges. With ultra-low latency, high-speed transmission, and improved network reliability, 5G enhances AR/VR applications in gaming, healthcare, education and industry. This paper evaluates the impact of 5G on AR/VR data transmission. An AR/VR video transmission over a 5G enabled network is considered between a user equipment and two nodes, namely Primary Node and Secondary Node. The paper proposes a transmission method that gurantees maximum resource utilisation for a given delay budget D<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">B</inf> and a threshold frame loss ratio flr<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">n</inf>. In the end, the comparison with other existing transmission methods are also performed. The paper highlights 5G transformative role in AR/VR driven applications resulting in reduced latency.
