Design and Implementation of a Hybrid RES-Powered BLDC Motor with Intelligent MPPT and Improved Z-Source Converter for Optimal Energy Conversion

This paper presents an efficient HRES system for BLDC motors with an improved z source converter. The system uses an enhanced Z source dc-dc converter to boost the voltage from the PV. PV maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is achieved by an artificial neural network (ANN) based approach. Under changing ecological conditions, this method offers rapid convergence to the optimal power point. A bidirectional dc-dc converter is incorporated to regulate battery power flow, enabling efficient energy storage and retrieval based on load demand and energy availability. The WECS, driven by a DFIG, uses a Proportional-Integral (PI) controlled Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifier to convert the AC supply from DFIG into DC, with the PI controller regulating the rectifier's operation. This hybrid system aims to provide a reliable, continuous power supply to the BLDC motor, leveraging both solar and wind resources with battery support for periods of low generation from HRES. Simulation results demonstrate the system’s performance, highlighting the improved energy conversion efficiency of 92%, effective MPPT tracking of 93.5%, and stable motor operation under dynamic loading and fluctuating energy inputs by MATLAB. This research subsidizes to advancing hybrid renewable systems by optimizing multi-source energy integration and enhancing power stability in BLDC motor-driven applications.
