Review of Research on the Development of Multi-Robot Collaborative Visual SLAM Technology

Because of the significant limitations of single-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology, multi-robot collaborative visual SLAM has emerged as the leading solution for complex applications due to its superior flexibility and robustness. This paper introduces the transition from single-robot visual SLAM to multi-robot collaborative visual SLAM, focusing on the primary research directions and development process of traditional technology. Then, it delves into three aspects of multi-robot collaborative visual SLAM: framework selection, relative pose estimation, and map fusion. Finally, the paper summarizes the current state of multi-robot collaborative visual SLAM development and outlines future research directions.
