A framework for smart circular logistics system adoption in electric vehicle manufacturing MSMEs in India

The rapid advancement of technology has transformed business operations and has played a crucial role in comprehending client demand in today's customer-centric and unpredictable market. Traditional supply chains (SCs) face several challenges, such as technological disruptions, intense rivalry, and globalization. Implementing real-time tracking of logistics is essential for efficient administration of inbound and outbound operations and for minimizing disruptions and improving service delivery. A Smart Circular Logistics System (SCLS) enables enterprises to optimize these operations, resulting in cost reductions, increased profitability, and sustainable practices. The present study addresses the research question What are the critical enablers for the successful adoption of SCLS by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India's electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing sector? This study utilizes a hybrid framework that combines the Best-Worst-Method (BWM) for accessing the importance of SCLSs' essential requirements, the Weighted-Influence-Non-Linear-Gauge-System (WINGS) for analyzing the interconnections among enablers of SCLS implementation, and a Quality Function Deployment (QFD) for converting prioritized essential requirements into enablers that facilitates SCLS adoption for MSMEs. Key findings highlight the critical enablers, including “LoRa and LoRaWAN wireless technology”, “Legislation, Standardization, and Governmental Support”, and “Integration of RFID and IoT in SCM” among others. This framework provides valuable insights for managers to develop a practical roadmap for resource allocation, technology adoption, and workforce development to achieve sustainable and circular logistics systems and to enhance their competitive advantage in the evolving EV market.
