A Qualitative Study on the Exercise Adherence Experiences of Women Participating in High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
This study aimed to explore factors influencing exercise adherence among women participating in high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Seven active female HIIT participants were recruited, and data were collected through in-depth interviews. The collected data were analyzed using an inductive category analysis method, which yielded four key themes: (1) mental and physical satisfaction, (2) rapid results and high efficiency, (3) formation of voluntary communities, and (4) autonomy in exercise. The findings indicate that immediate effects on weight loss and dieting through high caloric expenditure, time efficiency, the importance of community and camaraderie, and the autonomy provided by HIIT’s simple structure are critical factors contributing to sustained participation. Future research should incorporate variables such as engagement, satisfaction, and enjoyment in quantitative analyses to facilitate a deeper understanding of the cultural context surrounding HIIT.
