DIREITO AMBIENTAL E DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL: ENFRENTANDO A URBANIZAÇÃO DESORDENADA.
ABSTRACT The research in question aimed to examine the intersection between environmental law and sustainable development in the scenario of disordered urbanization in Brazil, characterized by irregular land occupation and a lack of adequate infrastructure. To this end, a methodology was employed that included a literature review and critical analysis of public policies in cities such as Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Recife, which exemplify integrated environmental management practices. The findings revealed that although there is a solid legal framework, especially in relation to Article 225 of the 1988 Federal Constitution, the effectiveness of these rules faces considerable challenges, such as corruption, lack of oversight and insufficient effective public policies. The study highlighted the need for legal solutions that promote urban sustainability, seeking to align environmental protection with social justice. Emphasizing the urgency of synergistic actions between the state, civil society and the private sector to face the challenges arising from disordered urbanization and environmental degradation. The research underlines that the link between environmental law and sustainable development is crucial to guaranteeing a balanced and inclusive future, ensuring that all citizens have access to an ecologically balanced environment and dignified living conditions, as advocated by the Constitution. Keywords: Urbanization; sustainable development; public policies.
