Selective Electrosynthesis of Methanol from CO 2 Over Cu/Cu 2 P 2 O 7 Via the Formate Pathway (Adv. Mater. 35/2025)

CO2-to-Methanol over Earth-Abundant Catalysts Hybrid Cu/Cu2P2O7 catalysts, formed by discharging Li-ion batteries, steer CO2 electroreduction decisively toward methanol, a key chemical for a sustainable future. The noble-metal-free hybrids achieve Faradaic efficiencies of 48.8 % in KHCO3 and 70.1 % in CsHCO3, operate steadily for 48 h, and sustain > 100 mA cm−2 on gas-diffusion electrodes. Abstract

More details can be found in article number 2501021 by Aloysius Soon, Jongsoon Kim, Jungki Ryu, and co-workers.
