Colour coded behaviour charts: Reflections on implementation and utility of colour coded behaviour charts in line with the utilisation of Positive Behaviour Support in dementia inpatient care

This paper aims to outline the practice of two services that have developed an adapted colour coded behaviour chart system to support the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support principles within their service, in the context of behaviours that challenge in dementia. They will discuss their use of colour behaviour charts, and discuss benefits, drawbacks and practical considerations of this approach. A note on language: throughout this article, we have utilised the term ‘behaviours that challenge (BtC)’; we recognise that this language is not universally used and that other teams and services may choose to define the phenomena in different ways.
