Salmon piscirickettsiosis in Europe: a disease of increasing concern
There has been an increase in the annual number of affected sites, and clinical impacts, with piscirickettsiosis in marine Atlantic salmon farms in Ireland and Scotland since 2019. A novel species of Piscirickettsia has also been confirmed in affected salmon in both countries. The aim of this note is to communicate the current status and highlight the increasing significance of the disease in European salmon farms.
